How a Reverse Osmosis System Changed My Hydration Habits

How a Reverse Osmosis System Changed My Hydration Habits

Drinking more water is a lifestyle goal for many people. I always struggled with staying hydrated, particularly when at home. I would reach for a soda or juice rather than water, mainly because I didn’t really like the taste of the water from the faucet and didn’t want to fill the fridge with bottled water.

So, I invested in a reverse osmosis filtration system and completely changed my hydration habits. Read on to uncover reverse osmosis water benefits and how it can change your lifestyle.

Reverse Osmosis Explained

Reverse osmosis (RO) is a simple process that has a big impact on water quality.

Standard osmosis moves water particles from the area of highest concentration to the area of lowest concentration. That usually means clean water will move toward a solution, for example, salty water. Osmosis would cause the salty water to become more diluted.

In reverse osmosis, water moves away from the solution, or contaminated water, to create a large volume of clean water. RO filters use pressure and membranes with minuscule pores to achieve this. RO water filtration systems get rid of heavy metals, dirt and rust, minerals like iron and copper, organic residues, and even PFAS, also known as forever chemicals.

The resulting water is pure, free of contaminants, and delicious.

RO systems come in many shapes and sizes, from countertop coolers to whole-house systems, or bottleless coolers with four-stage filtration. These latter systems use RO in conjunction with other filters to offer the cleanest water possible. You can figure out which is best for you by asking your water provider what contaminants are in your water supply.

With reverse osmosis water, hydration is easier because water tastes better and gives you the confidence that you’re enjoying a healthier, safer drink. But did it really change my hydration habits? Yes, and here’s how.

Drinking More Water

Firstly, the most powerful impact is that I naturally drink more water. The undersink RO system means that I now trust the water that comes straight from the faucet, so I can grab a glass whenever I feel thirsty.

The cleaner water tastes and smells better, and I’m happier because I know it’s better for me than sugary alternatives.

Saying So Long to Soda

Speaking of which, I’ve also noticed I’m drinking a lot less soda and sugary juices. I still like an OJ in the morning, but those times I used to grab a can of cola without thinking about it? I’m just turning on the tap instead.

I’m now considering a multifunction countertop RO water cooler, so I can make fresh infusions and beverages with fizzy water, exactly the way I like them.

Taking Water on the Go

Another way I’ve changed my hydration habits is by always taking some water with me, wherever I go. Previously, I’d throw a soda in my bag or maybe grab a bottle of water if I got thirsty while out and about.

Now, I have a reusable water bottle, so I can always enjoy tasty, clean water straight from the faucet. This saves me so much money, and I never get thirsty because I’m sipping regularly throughout the day.

If you decide to invest in a sports bottle or other mobile water container, make sure it’s easy to carry and to clean. Keeping your water bottle clean is essential so you don’t accidentally turn it into a bacteria farm.

What Happens When You Change Your Hydration Habits?

Everyone knows that dehydration is bad for you. It leads to fatigue, mood swings, and illness. But can drinking more water improve your health? Science suggests so. Upping your water intake could:

Reduce the risk of kidney stones

          Help with weight loss

          Manage blood pressure

          Aid in diabetes control

          Lower the impact of migraines

Cut the number of urinary tract infections you experience

Good hydration is also linked to better sleep habits. The more well-rested you are, the more likely you are to manage your mood throughout the day and the lower your risk of chronic illness. Drinking more water is also good for your skin and hair.

After increasing my water intake, I found that I was more alert, sleeping better, and less irritable during the day. I have my RO home water filtration system to thank for that.
