St Patrick's Day has evolved over the years to become a proper celebratory event all over the world. And there's no need to be Irish to get stuck in. Watching parades, dressing in green, making Irish soda bread, green shamrock crafts, drinking Irish coffee and making Irish beef stew - the ideas are endless.
Going Green For St Patty's Day
The colour or the environment? Both! St Patricks Day can be an opportunity to teach children how to play their part in caring for the environment. Conserving water and electricity, walking instead of using the car, planting seeds, composting food waste - all ideas to help your kids think about the world around them.
But there's also green-coloured cupcakes, green face-paints, green vegetables and of course, landmarks all over the world lit up green: Sydney Opera House, Niagara Falls, the Empire State Building, Irish Parliament Building. And of course, the Chicago River - dyed green once a year to commemorate St Patrick's Day.
